Nominations Open for European Award for 2015 Partnership in the Public Interest

PILnet: The Global Network for Public Interest Law is seeking nominations for the fifth annual European Award for Partnership in the Public Interest, which will recognize the best pro bono legal project (or projects) undertaken jointly between a nongovernmental organization and a law firm in Europe. 

Nominations for the award should all be submitted through the online form.  

PILnet seeks projects that have achieved positive results in at least one European country and were completed in the 12 months prior to July 2015. Self-nominations are welcome. Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria: 

  • The degree to which the project(s) demonstrates a significant, positive impact on the protection of rights and/or delivery of justice through legal representation or reform of law and policy;
    (Think of law amendment(s), proposals that took place as a result of the effort; case(s) represented at different court levels; the number of beneficiaries or other measureable results of the activity.)
  • The extent of legal resources and other forms of lawyer/law firm engagement that were deployed through the project; and 
    (Think of forms of assistance, counting working hours, the number of lawyers (seniors, partners, trainees) involved, financial resources mobilized, the number of individuals, NGOs helped, etc.)
  • The degree to which the work fostered a deep relationship between the NGO and the lawyers/law firms and created prospects for future collaboration of a durable nature.
    (Think of the intensity and longevity of the collaboration, further diversification in projects and in countries; multiplier-effect, broader impact of the project, etc.)

PILnet will accept nominations from now until 31 July 2015. The award will be bestowed on 12 November 2015 during the European Pro Bono Forum in Rome, Italy.
