Law for Change Student Competition

Calling for project proposals and Invitation to be a legal mentor

05 September 2017

PILnet proudly presents the inaugural Law for Change Student Competition, sponsored by the WYNG Foundation. This competition will pair law students and pro bono lawyers together to develop innovative solutions to entrenched social justices needs in Hong Kong, while raising general awareness about the role of law as a tool for change.

From now until 8 October 2017, undergraduate and graduate law students in Hong Kong are invited to submit an Executive Summary describing a project that will use the law to address a social justice issue in Hong Kong around the chosen theme of this year's competition, “Equality”. Selected teams (no more than 6) will be paired with their legal mentors and receive training on project design and implementation. Students from the winning team will be awarded a seed grant of HK$50,000 to implement their initiative in the twelve months following the end of the competition.

The Law for Change Student Competition also invites law firms and barristers to become mentors for selected student teams this Fall. During the course of the project, legal mentors will meet with the students a minimum of two times to give feedback and advice on the design as well as on the legal aspects of the project. We sincerely hope that you will be on board for this exciting new endeavor!
