    Garth Meintjes became president of PILnet at the end of 2015, when he succeeded its founder, Edwin Rekosh. Prior to joining PILnet, Garth served as the executive director of ISLP for nearly five years. Under his leadership, ISLP completed a strategic review, which resulted in a more focused mission to advance “just and accountable development” by mobilizing pro bono expertise to support the efforts of civil society groups and least developed country governments. He also led the integration of the organization’s operations in the United States and Europe.  Read more

    Edwin Rekosh

    Founder and Senior Advisor

    Edwin Rekosh is the founder of PILnet, was its president and CEO until 2015, and continues to serve the organization as a senior advisor. He is currently the Director of Human Rights Initiatives and Visiting Professor of Law at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. In that capacity, he is overseeing the overall growth of Cardozo’s human rights program, including the development of an initiative – Human Rights Forward – to create new solutions for combating suppression of civil society groups and advancing human rights.  Read more

    Senior Legal Officer

    Julie Cheng manages PILnet Hong Kong’s pro bono clearinghouse, designs legal capacity building initiatives for NGOs and helps to coordinate the Asia Pro Bono Forum. Julie worked in the environment and planning division of Minter Ellison Lawyers in Australia, she managed the risk, compliance and internal audit division of a listed infrastructure company, and was the in-house legal counsel for a local government on a major environmental and climate change litigation.   Read more

    Devon Kearney is PILnet's director of development, based in the New York office. He has worked in development and non-profit management for human rights and social justice organizations for ten years. Prior to coming to PILnet, he was senior development officer at the International Center for Transitional Justice. He has also worked for a range of policy and legal organizations including the Center for Constitutional Rights, the National Lawyers Guild, and the Center for Social Inclusion.   Read more

    Ms. Li Li (历莉) is the Senior Program Manager in the Beijing office of the Global Network for Public Interest Law (PILnet). She is responsible for organizing and implementing legal projects, including an annual domestic and international fellowship program, capacity-building training for grassroots NGOs, and conferences and workshops for public interest and commercial lawyers, legal NGO workers, law professors and students. Ms. Li also helps promote pro bono work in China and helps organize the PILnet Asia and European Pro Bono Forum.  Read more

    Dmitry Shabelnikov is director for Russia, he is based in Moscow and is responsible for PILnet’s work in Russia. He has been leading efforts to promote legal aid reforms in Russia and develop clinical legal education there.
