Daniela Ikawa is a legal officer in PILnet’s New York office. She manages publications and other special projects such as the Virtual Library on Equality.
A Brazilian lawyer, Ikawa earned her LLM from Columbia University and her PhD from the University of Sao Paulo (USP). At Columbia, she was granted a human rights fellowship and was nominated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar for her academic achievement in May 1999. Her PhD thesis at USP was approved with distinction in 2006.Ikawa has established a human rights clinic and worked as the coordinator of a human rights fellowship program and as an international litigator. She has also taught International Human Rights Law in Brazilian universities, graduate schools and civil society organizations. She has published papers and organized books on racial equality, women's rights, rights of indigenous peoples, security and human rights, international criminal tribunals, the Inter-American System and judicial discretion.
