Mariam Dirdiri is the 2026 PILnet Legal fellow with the Refugee-Led Research Hub at the University of Oxford. Mariam holds an LLB from University of Medical Sciences and Technology in Sudan, and is currently pursuing her MSc in Environmental and Climate Law in University College Dublin, Ireland. Prior to the fellowship, Mariam worked in civic engagement initiatives in Sudan focusing on women’s rights and pro bono legal assistance. Mariam’s previous research focused on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) emphasizing fiscal sovereignty and institutional obstacles in the African context. Under the Forced Displacement team, Mariam is expanding on the RLRH’s research on the work of Refugee Led Organizations (RLOs) in Latin American and Africa, filling a documented geographic gap in existing research. Her work will focus on participatory research methodologies that center RLOs and displaced individuals as authorities on their own legal needs. She is further interested in the intersectionality between forced displacement and climate justice, and the role of law in protecting vulnerable communities facing compounding environmental and displacement crises.
