Rana Hazarat

Rana Hazarat as an Afghan-Canadian human rights lawyer of Hazara descent. Rana and her family came to Canada as refugees. Her lived experience as a refugee has had the strongest impact on her desire to pursue a legal education. Rana studied Political Science and Economics at the University of British Columbia and obtained a Juris Doctor from the Peter A. Allard School of Law. She currently works for Lawyers for Human Rights (based in South Africa) as a legal intern through the Young Lawyers International Program, which is funded by the Canadian Bar Association and Global Affairs Canada. Rana is working on several national and international initiatives in response to the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, such as assisting with the resettlement of Afghans in Canada, facilitating refugee sponsorship applications, and drafting public legal education materials, calls to actions, and policy papers.
