4th Annual Law for Change Student Competition Underway

Anthony Pang is a Counsel at the corporate department of Skadden Arps and is qualified in Hong Kong, New York and England and Wales.  He advises clients on a wide range of corporate matters, including corporate finance transactions, initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, compliance and Hong Kong regulatory matters. Mr. Pang has been named a Notable Practitioner in Hong Kong Equity Capital Markets, Debt Capital Markets and M&A by IFLR1000.

Beaumont Yun is a trainee solicitor in Herbert Smith Freehills’ finance team.  He is seconded from Sinopec International Petroleum Corporation in Beijing where he worked for two years prior to joining the firm in 2019.

Brian Wong is a business strategist at DFS Group, a global luxury travel retailer. He formerly worked at EY in the Transaction Advisory Services team, specialising in corporate restructuring and advising clients including the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority.

Brian is also a co-founder of Travaria Limited, an online corporate travel services company. He is committed to finding sustainable travel solutions and supporting ethical tourism in the modern world.

Brian graduated from the University of Rochester and swam for the Hong Kong swimming team for over ten years.

Chloe Chan is a corporate lawyer and advises public and private sector clients on mergers, acquisitions, divestments and private equity matters in Hong Kong and the broader Asia Pacific.

Chloe is driven to progressing justice for vulnerable and disadvantaged children. She has worked with a number of non-profit organisations on a pro bono basis, including Hong Kong Children In Need, Justice Centre Hong Kong and Children 1^st, a Scottish charity working to protect children from abuse and neglect.

Chloe graduated with a first class honours from the University of Aberdeen and is admitted to practice as a solicitor in England, Wales and Scotland. She is also a registered Notary Public in Scotland, and currently practicing as a Registered Foreign Lawyer in Hong Kong.

Clarissa Watt is an Associate in the Investment Funds team at King & Wood Mallesons. She specialises in the establishment of private equity funds, fund investments and other general corporate matters.

She obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the City University of Hong Kong. Prior to joining the legal industry, she graduated from the University of Hong Kong majoring in Accounting and Finance.

Outside of work, Clarissa has participated in various charitable causes throughout the years, ranging from those in support of education to elderly welfare.

Cordelia Yeung graduated from Durham University and the University of Hong Kong, and started her practice at the Bar in 2018. She is developing a broad civil practice with a focus on commercial and family matters. She also maintains a special interest in international environmental law and cultural heritage law.

Cordelia is currently a member of the Asian Academy of International Law, the International Law Association, the Hong Kong Bar Association Committee on Competition Law, and the Hong Kong Family Law Association.

At present, Cordelia is a lecturer (non-clinical) at the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong.

Dorian Tsui is a compliance officer in Bloomberg focusing on the establishment and operation of our Trade Surveillance program in Asia. He has over 10 years of experience in the investment banking industry with exposure across different functions and asset classes.

Eunice Lee is an incoming associate (pending admission) to the Technology, Media & Telecommunications practice in Linklaters Hong Kong. She graduated from London School of Economics and Political Science with a LL.B. in 2017 and The Chinese University of Hong Kong with P.C.LL. in 2018. She joined Linklaters Hong Kong in 2018.

Mr. Cheng is an associate at Dechert whose practice is focused on investment funds. He advises financial institutions and fund managers on fund formation, fund investment, retail fund registration and related regulatory issues. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and The University of Hong Kong.

As a qualified lawyer in Hong Kong and Malaysia, Janice Chew leads the broad practice of JC Legal in cross-border advisory, corporate and commercial law, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance and intellectual property. Trained in commercial litigation, Janice serves to empower entrepreneurs with her legal expertise by designing bespoke solutions. Her clients range from technology startups to industry leaders in e-commerce, property development and asset management. Well-connected with professionals in ASEAN, Janice often advises on cross-border projects such as inbound foreign direct investment, incorporation of offshore investment funds and international dispute resolution.

Janice is committed to serving the community through pro bono legal service and supporting various social causes, particularly gender equality and diversity & inclusion. She has supervised law students in pro bono projects through the Legal Advice Programme of the University of Hong Kong, and mentored a team of secondary school students on social entrepreneurship in the Wofoo Millennium Entrepreneurship Programme. Janice currently serves as Director of Uplifters, a registered charity empowering migrant domestic workers through online education, and Honorary Legal Advisor of Hong Kong Momtrepreneurs, a charitable organisation advocating women empowerment. In 2019, Janice was honoured by Prestige as 40 under 40 in Hong Kong. She was also named Caring Ambassador 2020-2021 by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service for her positive contribution to the community.

Joanna Ku graduated from the University of Hong Kong with an LLB in 2018 and joined Herbert Smith Freehills in 2019.

Katherine Henzell is an Executive Director in Legal at UBS and specializes in equity financing and derivatives. She is also a joint coordinator of the UBS in-house pro bono programme and member of the UBS Hong Kong Community Affairs Committee, and is a member of the ACC pro bono committee. Katherine has worked for UBS for over 10 years in both Hong Kong and Tokyo, and before that in private practice with Simmons & Simmons in Tokyo and Blake Dawson Waldron in Sydney and Melbourne. Katherine is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales and New South Wales, Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master in Arts, both from the University of Queensland.

Kelvin Ho is a trainee solicitor in Herbert Smith Freehills’ corporate team.  He graduated from the University of New South Wales with an LLB in 2018 and joined Herbert Smith Freehills in 2019.

Kimberly Ann Dasse is a licensed attorney in the State of New York and admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Hong Kong. She has a family law practice in Hong Kong where she assists individuals going through a divorce, helps couples who seek pre- and post-nuptial agreements, and advises on matters related to the guardianship of children. She also assists companies in their commercial transactions and corporate matters. In New York, Kimberly practised Federal and State Constitutional law in the federal district courts in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Her work as an Assistant Attorney General allowed her the opportunity to work throughout the State of New York representing State institutions and individuals.

Over the past 12 years, Kimberly has also established herself as a respected and experienced trainer of solicitors in the region through her work at an international law firm and The Law Society of Hong Kong. She also provides training through her own training organisation, The Purple Owl Training, where she develops bespoke training programmes for law firms in Hong Kong and abroad. Recently, she has rolled out a 16-episode online drafting series suitable for law firms to use with their incoming interns, trainees, and junior associates.

Mr. Li is an associate at Dechert whose practice focuses on corporate and corporate finance transactions, including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and initial public offerings. He is a graduate of University of New South Wales, University of Sydney and City University of Hong Kong.

Lesley Cheung is an interdisciplinary problem solver with creative and professional practices covering stakeholder engagement, service design, content development and public advocacy. As Growth Strategy Specialist of JC Legal, Lesley builds the firm’s strategic partnerships, initiatives and cross-border practices. Prior to joining the legal industry, she coordinated media publicity for international trade exhibitions of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and assisted in business case research in the Asia Pacific for Harvard Business School.

In her spare time, Lesley actively participates in and writes about co-creative social innovation projects. She was the visual narrator of a legal technology prototype that won the Best Public Benefit Legal Tech Award and Champion in the Global Legal Hackathon Hong Kong 2019. She was also part of Hong Kong’s first community-initiated lab addressing public library services, and led the creation of a prototype that was later endorsed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Lesley has provided training on user interview analysis and been trained on stakeholder engagement and digital marketing for charitable organisations.

Mr. Wan is an associate at Dechert whose practice is focused on investment funds, with an emphasis on fund formation. He covers a range of funds including private equity, credit, venture capital and project funds. He is a graduate of University of Sydney and College of Law Sydney.

Madhu Krishnan holds a bachelor’s degree in modern languages from University College, Durham. He obtained his Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Law, Manchester, and completed his LPC at BPP Law School, London.

Madhu joined the firm in 2013 and is a Registered Foreign Lawyer in the international arbitration group. Madhu has also spent time working in the firm’s London and Tokyo offices.  He is fluent in English, French and Spanish.

May Ting is an associate in the firm’s finance team. She has experience in advising financial institutions, bank syndicates, Hong Kong listed companies and Chinese state-owned enterprises in general banking and debt restructuring. She also has experience in advising lenders and borrowers on bilateral and syndicated, secured and unsecured, corporate loans, margin loans, refinances and acquisition financings. She has spent time on secondment in New York advising on corporate matters and on client secondment at CCB International in Hong Kong advising their direct investment teams.

She obtained her Bachelor in Laws at Queen Mary, University of London and was called to the Bar of England and Wales. She studied the PCLL at The Chinese University of Hong Kong on a Distinguished Scholarship and is admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong.

She has a keen interest in pro bono work and she is particularly passionate about helping women who are, or are vulnerable to, domestic violence and human trafficking. Within Herbert Smith Freehills, May Ting is an active member of the Go Green team and is focused on implementing green initiatives in the office.

Ms. Yeung is a trainee solicitor at Dechert currently sitting in the Corporate and Securities group. She is a graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and joined Dechert in 2019.

Ray Wong is an Associate in the M&A / Private Equity team at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. He was raised in New Zealand and graduated from the University of Auckland.

He is a believer in empowering youth to be agents of change in their local communities.

Ray is actively involved in pro bono, including supporting Resolve Foundation, Hagar Foundation, Justice Centre Hong Kong and Hong Kong Rugby Union Community Foundation on recent projects.

Sean Ching is a Managing Associate in the Mainstream Corporate team in the Linklaters Hong Kong office regularly advising on cross-border M&A, joint ventures and general corporate matters.  He also has expertise in international sub-sea cable joint ventures, telco commercial contracts, and telco regulations in Hong Kong.  Sean has worked in London and Hong Kong and recently completed a secondment with Facebook supporting their APAC network infrastructure team.  Outside of work he likes to play and watch football and is an avid supporter of Manchester United.

Sharon Nourani joined UBS in Hong Kong earlier this year, and is a Director in Legal, specializing in leveraged and acquisition finance. Sharon was originally in private practice with Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, where she covered a broad range of cross-border banking and finance transactions. Sharon received a Bachelor of arts with honors in Law with Politics from the University of Manchester before completing her legal education at BPP Law School London and going on to qualify as a solicitor of England and Wales.

Tracy Lee is an associate with the corporate team and specialises in corporate finance work, including initial public offerings and mergers and acquisitions.

Wales Wang is senior legal counsel to Bloomberg. He has practiced law for 20 years in both private practices and corporate. His main practice areas include M&A, direct investment, general corporate matters, employment law and data security. He qualified in the State of New York and China.

Wesley Wong graduated from Durham University and City University of Hong Kong. He has been practicing at the bar since 2018. Wesley has a broad civil and criminal practice and especially in matrimonial law. Wesley has appeared in different levels of courts ranging from Magistrates’ Courts to High Court. He appeared in cases such as Winding-up, matrimonial, interlocutory applications and appeals. He also frequently attended legal visits and Magistrates’ Court in recent months owing to the development in Hong Kong regarding the five demands and the freedoms of Hong Kong citizens.

Wesley is also a coach for Mock Trial – Justice Education Project organised by The Society of Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention, Hong Kong since he practiced.

Xuan Zhang is a corporate lawyer who focuses on the formation and operation of private investment funds. Ms. Zhang has broad experience in advising sponsors and investors on a variety of issues, including fund formation, co-investment, internal carry arrangements, secondary transactions and regulatory and compliance matters.  Prior to joining Skadden in 2017, Ms. Zhang was a counsel in the investment funds practice of a leading international law firm’s Hong Kong and Beijing offices. Before that, she worked as an associate at a top-tier global law firm in New York, focusing on the formation and operation of private investment funds.

Yvonne Siu is a compliance officer in Bloomberg covering North Asia. She has been a compliance and finance professional for over 15 years in investment banks. She is recently qualified as a lawyer in Australia.
