The Hong Kong Pro Bono Roundtable held its second meeting of 2026 on June 17, generously hosted by White & Case.
The discussion centered around Elder Law & Rights, with insightful contributions from our experienced panelists Alfred Ip (Hugill & Ip), Kim Chan (AWEsum Care), and Ryanne Lai (ForeverGift). The panel highlighted that elder law serves as a broad umbrella covering estate planning and long-term care for diverse age groups, while addressing the major socioeconomic and cultural barriers that often prevent individuals from seeking timely legal help. The lively discussion ultimately led to a productive brainstorming session on how practitioners—including corporate lawyers with no prior experience in the field—can provide vital pro bono assistance. Key takeaways focused on opportunities for lawyers to upskill and familiarize themselves with elder law issues, support elder care NGOs where legal expertise is crucial, and raise awareness within their own networks about the importance of early estate planning.
