The 2025 Q4 Hong Kong Pro Bono Roundtable was held on 11 December, generously hosted by Linklaters.
The session focused on pro bono collaboration in Animal Welfare and Rights. Amanda Whitfort from the University of Hong Kong and Andrea Richey from the Hong Kong Shark Foundation shared practical insights into the context and challenges of delivering legal support for animal welfare causes in Hong Kong. They also discussed the resource and operational constraints that animal-related matters can involve, and how legal practitioners could contribute meaningfully through pro bono work.
Building on these themes, the discussion turned to how pro bono support could be structured to better respond to real-world needs, drawing on participants’ experiences and the types of initiatives they had supported.
The Roundtable also reflected and discussed the recent Tai Po tragedy, including the legal and advocacy issues it raised and how pro bono support could be relevant to those affected.
