Providing a secondee to a civil society organisation working to combat climate change (or, for individual lawyers or law students, volunteering at such an organisation).

The Chancery Lane Project (TCLP) is a network of lawyers and professionals who collaborate on a pro bono basis at hackathons: events where participants lend their legal expertise to write climate-conscious contractual clauses. These clauses are published in an open-source database to enable global transition to a Net Zero economy using the power of contract law. In addition to supporting its hackathons, Clyde & Co provides secondment support to TCLP. A legally trained secondee attends TCLP 3.5 days per week and assists TCLP to organise and run its hackathons for various industry sectors, to pre-screen resulting clauses before they are sent for peer review, to familiarise businesses in those sectors with the relevant clauses, and to carry out impact assessments. The broad range of work has included carrying out background research for themed events, facilitating hackathons, technical drafting, preparing post-event reports, researching and drafting impact reports, and interviewing key stakeholders. “Clyde & Co is delighted to be able to offer secondment support to TCLP. Not only is it an opportunity for us to educate ourselves further on how we, as lawyers, can assist our clients to meet their Net Zero commitments but we are also able to support this fantastic organisation to expand its reach.” Caroline Loving, Pro Bono Manager
