Professional Responsibility and Legal Ethics in Moscow

PILnet, in collaboration with DLA Piper, White & Case, and Moscow State University, conducted the eighth annual training program on Professional Responsibility and Legal Ethics in the Global Legal Market. In a continuing effort to improve legal education in Russia, this course introduces law students to the role of ethics as a professional responsibility in the legal sector.

Each year law students from across Russia are selected through an essay competition to attend an intense interactive 4-day program focusing on such themes as conflict of interest, confidentiality, knowing your client, pro bono and corporate social responsibility, and regulation of the legal profession in Russia and other countries. This year 36 students learned from professionals including Paul Tremblay, Clinical Professor of Law at Boston College Law School, who facilitated the program and Yuri Pilipenko, President of the Russian Federal Bar Chamber.

Through this course, and other workshops and competitions, PILnet and its partners strive to raise awareness of law students around the world about public interest law and the role of law as a tool for change.
