Civil society organizations (CSOs) across Africa play a vital role in advancing justice for individuals and communities and in driving social change – their work is critical to building stronger, more equitable societies.

Yet many organizations face legal and regulatory challenges in the course of their operations or implementing their programs. These challenges, whether it is to navigate registration of their organization and complex compliance systems, handle contract issues or organizational governance, can significantly impact their programs and operations. Legal support can make a significant difference in enhancing the operational health of these organizations. However, in some contexts legal support may exist but is inaccessible to the majority of these organizations, especially smaller or grassroot organizations that may lack the professional networks or financial resources to access it.

At PILnet, we believe that a strong civil society depends on firm legal foundations. PILnet recently expanded in Africa, to assist organizations in overcoming the legal challenges they may be facing. Through the PILnet clearinghouse, we connect nonprofit organizations with free, high-quality legal assistance provided by our growing network of law firms and public-interest lawyers across the continent.

This webinar will introduce the clearinghouse, provide step-by-step guidance on how to access legal support, and spotlight the ways legal assistance can strengthen the work of nonprofits across Africa.

Join us for this practical and interactive session to:

  • Learn how your organization can access free legal support through the clearinghouse
  • Understand what types of legal issues can be addressed
  • Hear from other organizations how benefiting from pro bono legal assistance has helped strengthen their operations
  • Ask questions and share ways PILnet can support your work through the clearinghouse or resilience resources

This session is open to nonprofit organizations across Africa, including grassroot organizations and refugee-led organizations, human rights defenders, and lawyers and law firms who want to learn more about the work PILnet does and how to get involved. The session will be conducted in English.
