Credibility is key for any charitable organization, but particularly for those groups working with young people and other vulnerable communities, trust is essential. Brand protection is therefore a fundamental step in safeguarding beneficiaries against counterfeits and maintaining the confidence of donors and other stakeholders.
In 2023, GAME, an international non-profit using street sports programs and youth leadership to build civic engagement, requested legal advice on protecting its brand across several jurisdictions. GAME, which works across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, wanted to explore the legal steps necessary to protect its logos, designs, and program ideas.
PILnet matched GAME with Al Tamimi & Co. in Jordan—the leading corporate and commercial law firm in the MENA region. The Al Tamimi & Co lawyers provided GAME with recommendations on documents to obtain, motions to file, and important internal decisions to make. By legally protecting their brand and programs, organizations can ensure their communities receive the highest quality of services from the organization they trust.
GAME will begin implementing the recommendations in 2024, and hope to be matched with firms in other jurisdictions in the future.
PILnet works with civil society organizations and NGOs from around the globe to identify their legal needs and connect them with pro bono lawyers in our global network who have the relevant skills and expertise to help. Through our Global Clearinghouse, we work with both sides to create a strategic partnership for sustained impact. The free legal assistance provided by pro bono lawyers is not limited by jurisdiction or region, and multi-jurisdictional legal support is also available.
