The second-ever Hong Kong Pro Bono Week 2025, held from May 26-30, 2025 concluded with remarkable success, fostering collaboration among legal professionals, NGO staff, and university students. This year’s events provided a platform for participants to deepen their understanding of access to justice and to explore innovative ways to enhance pro bono assistance in Hong Kong. More specifically, the week’s programming encouraged participants to collaborate, innovate, and revive their motivation for change.

PILnet, being one of the organizing committee members, was thrilled to witness the pro bono legal community come together to have meaningful discussions and practical initiatives that were a true representation of the theme “Pro Bono in Action: Turning Law into Justice.” This theme highlighted the urgency of engagement and participation to work collectively to address systemic inequity and justice gap, particularly in these uncertain times.
One of the highlight’s for this year’s Pro Bono Week was the year’s second Hong Kong Pro Bono Roundtable, hosted by A&O Shearman, which focused on Women’s Access to Justice. Leading practitioners engaged in a dynamic conversation about current challenges and opportunities in this area. This event, along with the Launch Event hosted by Bloomberg, Networking Drinks, a Community Legal Access Forum, and an Interactive Workshop for Law Students, created a vibrant atmosphere for networking and collaboration.

The energy and enthusiasm for the second Hong Kong Pro Bono Week signals an exciting time ahead for the future of pro bono in Hong Kong!
