On June 23 and 24, PILnet held a two-part online course on legal writing skills in Russian in partnership with Morgan Lewis and the Independent Center for the Protection of Human Rights in Tajikistan.
This course featured Jon Hines, an American lawyer and partner in the Moscow office of Morgan Lewis with more than 30 years of experience in Russia and Central Asia. During this course, he discussed the basic skills needed and the rules that need to be followed when preparing a legal document. This included the structure of legal documents, preparation of memorandum, and the correct phrasing of questions.
In total, 150 people participated from 7 countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, and Belarus. Participants included NGO professionals, students and graduates, professors, and professionals from government organizations.
