C. Okonkwo

C. Okonkwo is a small scale food vendor from Awka, Anambra State, who has sustained her family for over 14 years through the sale of Okpa, a beloved local delicacy in southeastern Nigeria. A widow and mother, she embodies resilience and entrepreneurial strength in the face of personal tragedy. Her husband was a victim of extrajudicial killing by the notorious Awkuzu SARS unit, one of many such incidents that fueled the nation wide EndSARS protests. With legal representation from Spaces for Change |S4C, she pursued justice and received compensation, an important step in holding state actors accountable. Her story highlights S4C’s human rights advocacy and its commitment to empowering vulnerable groups to access justice and rebuild their lives.
