Foluso Idumu-Shado

Foluso Shado is a PILnet Fellow and Director of the People-Centred Justice Programme at the Justice Research Institute (JRI), Nigeria. Called to the Bar 25 years ago, she has dedicated her career to advancing social justice, pro bono culture, and inclusive development. She led the creation of Nigeria’s National Clearing House on Pro Bono and a People’s Advice Centre for indigent citizens. At JRI, she serves as West Africa Lead for the African Alliance for People-Centred Justice, driving research, advocacy, and reforms to expand access to justice. A former Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria, she shaped initiatives such as Sexual and Domestic Abuse Referral Centres and Citizens’ Rights Directorates. She also founded the I Choose Life Foundation on mental health and holds an LL.M in Human Rights and Democratization in Africa from the University of Pretoria.
