María De Vecchi Gerli

María has worked in human rights for nearly two decades, both from an academic and an activist perspective. She holds a PhD in Political Sociology (UCL, UK), an MA in Political Sociology (Instituto Mora, Mexico) and a BA in Psychology (U.N.A.M., Mexico). She has analysed the interrelations between violence, truth, memory and justice. María is the Truth and Memory Officer at ARTICLE 19, Mexico and Central America office. At this international human rights organisation, María has coordinated the Archives of Repression, Archives of Resistance, and the Mass graves platforms. These projects work on archival and testimonial recovery of human rights violations in order to contribute to the right to truth of victims and society in general. She also works on applying the macrocriminal approach to the work at Article 19 with a project on lethal violence in the southern state of Veracruz.
