Roy Apagruk Agloinga brings extensive experience in leadership development, philanthropy, rural health, government policy, fundraising and Inupiat language preservation. As the President and CEO for First Alaskans Institute he manages a team working on Alaska Native policy, advocacy, as well as fundraising and endowment development. Roy’s previous work as a program officer for Rasmuson Foundation bridged outside funders to partnering on over $20 Million annually on projects in Alaska. With maternal roots in the Bering Strait region and paternal roots in Spain, the Philippines and New England, Roy was raised immersed in Inupiat and Yup’ik cultures. He is the co-author of the Qawiaraq Iġałuik Inupiat Dictionary and former Bering Strait representative on the Alaska Federation of Natives board (term ended December 2020). A tribal member of the Native Village of White Mountain and a shareholder of four different Alaska Native Village Corporation and a shareholder of the regional Bering Straits Native Corporation. In 2026, Roy joined the Philanthropy Northwest’s board of trustees and in 2025 the Forakergroup board. Roy has also served on the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and co-chair for the Equity and Inclusion Committee of the Western States Arts Federation, a regional nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the arts across the Western states. Roy previously served as a local trustee for the Alaska State Council on the Arts, a regional hospital administrator, hospital board member and a tribal administrator. He is also a former Mayor of White Mountain. Roy has a bachelor’s degree in English and a degree in secondary education from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He is a continuing student of Inupiat and Spanish.
