Fighting Climate Change in the Courtroom

Jesse Medlong is a lawyer helping enterprises and governments navigate the legal risks and opportunities on their journey toward sustainability, with a focus on climate change, environmental law, dispute resolution, and multilateral negotiation. Jesse’s unique experience combines international diplomacy, high-stakes litigation, and sustainability policy, so his clients can simplify compliance and forge strategic relationships at the increasingly critical intersection of business and sustainability. His practice has a particular focus on identifying ESG-related liability risks and developing creative, stakeholder-centric approaches to risk mitigation and dispute resolution. Jesse also coordinates the ESG efforts of DLA Piper’s Consumer Goods, Food and Retail Sector, and his clients include household brands across a wide range of industries.

Noa Roque has been working as an Environment and Legal Officer at International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR) for the past two years.

Along with her colleagues, she has launched and managed IPHR’s Human Rights Impact Hub, a legal project which seeks to provide local lawyers with the skills to engage in human rights-based climate / environmental litigation and to strengthen accountability for the damages caused to our planet.

Louisa is a Legal Director in the pro bono team at DLA Piper, with more than 10 years’ background in international litigation and arbitration. Louisa specialises in developing and managing pro bono initiatives in environmental, climate and conservation law. She works with not for profits, intergovernmental organisations and the fourth sector to identify projects for lawyers that promote a human rights-based approach to climate and conservation work, and that advocate for long-term climate change and conservation goals. In the UK her projects focus on nature protection and regeneration, environmental justice and decarbonisation. She has created international programmes that provide access to climate finance and climate tech for vulnerable communities impacted by climate change.

Danilo has acted in the environmental field since 2012. His practice embraces greenfield projects, contamination cases and environmental issues related to industrial, agricultural, infrastructure and mining activities. He has experience in environmental due diligences; research and analysis of environmental legislation; draft of memorandums; and in administrative and judicial proceedings. Danilo has postgraduate degree in Civil Procedural Law and also an MBA. He is member of the Brazilian Union of Environmental Law and of LACLIMA – Latin American Climate Lawyers Initiative for Mobilizing Action.
