PILnet, UNHCR, Trust Law, the European Coalition for Refugees and Migrants (EU-COMAR), and Global Refugee Forum (GRF) Legal Community Pledge partners held a Refugee Rights Pro Bono Workshop on September 3rd. During the workshop NGOs learned how to access free legal help (‘pro bono’) to strengthen your organization and/or enhance your programs.
This workshop was held in advance of a Refugee Rights Pro Bono Pitching Roundtable in October, where RLOs and NGOs will be supported to pitch their legal needs and pro bono project ideas to lawyers, staff from law firms, and corporate in-house counsel who have committed to provide free legal help. This pitching roundtable model, successfully implemented twice in Asia (2020 and 2022), has fostered a diverse range of new pro bono projects and partnerships. We are excited to bring this innovative partnership building opportunity to the UK and Europe.
The following resources are available to help you scope our own pro bono project ideas:
- Menu of Pro Bono Options: Provides an overview of the main types of legal assistance that you can request to help you get thinking about your project ideas.
- Top Tips Document: Outlines different elements that go into scoping and implementing a successful refugee rights pro bono project. We highly recommend you read this before submitting your project idea.
- Collaborative Project Resource: A more in-depth resource for legal aid NGOs or others considering developing a collaborative project that provides direct assistance to refugees or others forcibly displaced.
If you already know what legal help you need or have a project in mind and want to secure a slot to pitch at the Roundtable, please fill out our Legal Assistance intake form.
